Freedom Pet Supplies Inc. (FPS) was established in September 2001 under the ownership of John & Kelly Ayres. They established the business from a 15,000 sq ft leased warehouse with an initial staff of six employees - consisting of three sales representatives, one customer service manager, one warehouse manager and one driver.
Over a six and a half year period the leased space expanded to 50,000 sq ft in the existing building plus an additional 10,000 sq ft of offsite storage.
They set out to establish a business model different from their competitors. Although they would be considered a distributor, the emphasis was strictly placed on being a strong sales and marketing company that happened to provide the industry’s best distribution. The adoption of this plan ensures that they add value to their customers and to their vendor partners.
FPS completely understand that they must earn customers business every day and therefore their decisions are made in the best interest of their customers.
Every employees focus is one hundred percent customer orientated. Employee’s are the heart and soul of the customer experience. To create a culture of ownership, all FPS employees are encouraged to be involved in the day to day operations of the business. All employees take pride in their jobs and themselves, knowing how important it is for our company to succeed and progress forward
As a result of staying true to this business model, they have achieved growth far beyond their expectations. With this growth. Freedom Pet Supplies has been able to achieve their ten year goal in seven years.
In 2007 they started the construction on their 80,000 sq ft warehouse. This new warehouse would allow FPS to have all products under one roof, as well as be able to incorporate a commercial freezer within their own building. To continue setting the bar higher, they were the first distributor to start making deliveries with tri-temperature trucks. They would be able to deliver frozen, fresh and dry in every delivery. At that time FPS had grown to forty-seven employees. They moved into their building in February 2008.
In 2010, due to the increase in demand in the frozen pet food and treat category, FPS grew again with the addition of a new commercial freezer. This freezer allowed them to switch their previous smaller freezer over to refrigerator temperature for their fresh products.
In 2012, Freedom Pet Supplies once again had run out of room and were occupying two additional warehouse spaces. They started construction on a 40,000 sq ft addition to the warehouse. Freedom knew this would be the last addition to their building and needed to make sure they maximized all of their space. They worked with some key suppliers and decided to invest in new machinery that would allow them to achieve the pallet storage count that they currently had in their 80,000 sq ft warehouse in the new addition.
